All cases except one were in the southern porcine where were shaken by the country’s worst fighting in almost 5years. Officials said. ASSIGNMENT THREE
Please paste the Obituary assignment here.
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.
The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.
Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?
Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.
volunteers in 2008 Olympic games
interviewee: volunteers both from school and society
leaders of Olympic association
CPI rise in china
interviewee: residents, goods seller, leaders of related department
employment situation for 2008 college graduates
interviewee : students who will graduate in 2008
managers from some enterprises
teachers who guide how to choose jobs for students
YOU NEED TO SHOW WHY ANYONE OUTSIDE THE COUNTRY CARES. THAT MEANS WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT IT IS THESE PEOPLE WOULD SAY. THESE PITCHES WOULD NOT BE SELECTED IN A NEWSROOM. THE BOSS MIGHT TELL YOU TO DO MORE RESEARCH AND TRY AGAIN.
ASSIGNMENT 5 INCOMPLETE
From judging the "pig news", we've learned that when we analyse a news story, first we should clear about the source of of quotation and the accuracy of the statistics. Then we may judge is there any logic problems, and whether we can be persuade to believe the conclusion the author made by the facts and detailed the story provides.
when we read or report the news, we may be alert of the news bias. The author may never write down his own words, but the data and the quotations he provided are fully express his idea over the issue. so when we do our reporting, we can be use the facts and source which is favor of our idea to help us to make the story much more persuasive.
In terms of bias and fairness, we strongly think that the report's sources are mostly one-sided.
He did quote information from the Chinese government side, but mostly statistics, while figures don't really speak for itself if you don't give an explanation. Like the figures of dead pigs. There are plenty of Chinese government announcement and press releases. Why he just cited certain figures?
We think western style of reporting seems very fair, with all the piling of facts and figures and quotes. But actually it's not necessary the case. The angle of choosing materials makes a lot of difference.
For the detailed analysis the reporter turned to organizations outside of China, or at least people with the opposite view to the Chinese government. Why didn't he cited more explanation from the Chinese government side?
Hence, we do believe the writer does have bias to a certain extent.
