Visiting Palestinian foreign Minster has dismissed an Arab peace initiative that is dividing his faltering Hamas government. Mahomoud Zahar called it an impractical initiative. China supports the initiative to establish a Palestinian state alongside Israel. Zahar hinted an end to the financial crunch brought on by international sanctions. China did not offer any financial aid during his visit. Zahar rejected a referendum for a two-state solution idea, saying that Hamas had just won an election in January.

ASSIGNMENT THREE
Please paste the Obituary assignment here.
Great inter-cultural communication researcher Sarina Sun passes away of cancer at 5:00am in Palace Hospital, according to its charger. “Her death poses a great loss to the academia of inter-cultural communication,”said Samuel Green, her colleague and best friend in Michigan State University. The 88-year-old researcher was born in Nanjing, one of the biggest cities in China. She went to Communication University of China in 2004, majoring in broadcasting and anchoring in English. After graduation, she studied in California State University, focusing on research about inter-cultural communication and education. Sarina accomplished her PH.D degree in Michigan State University and became educator there for more than 50 years with publications concerning cultural misunderstanding and language diversity. Her contribution to inter-cultural education made her awarded the “Mother of Inter-cultural Communication”. (Pictures about my academic life in this paragraph) “She was not only a competent researcher, but also a kind professor,” her student Jeff sobbed, “She was always patient with us even when she was seriously ill at the end of her life.” Sarina's passing away might leave her unfinished language study report to her colleagues and students. Funeral followed by a ceremony to be attended by world scholars will be held at Saint Maria Cathedral near the Superior Lake next Monday.
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.

The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.

Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestinian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?

Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.
1. Drought Hits North China Province Shot: crops affected and people suffered Interviewee: senior engineer with the meteorological bureau, affected people including farmers
2. Chinese tenors bid farewell to Pavarotti Shot: scene of Pavarotti’s funeral, scene of top Chinese tenors perform "Nessun Dorma," a signature aria of the late Italian tenor Luciano Pavarotti at a tribute concert for Pavarotti in Beijing, on Monday, September 10, 2007 Interviewee: Chinese tenor Dai Yuqiang and Wei Song
3. Beijing: 80,000 guards to offer services for Olympics Shot: scene of Olympic stadium, scene of training guards
Interviewee: foreigners and local people (get their reaction of the news), Olympic committee in Beijing, guards

Assignment about Pig Disease(group with Mandy&Lara)
The sources are listed: Lo inhuman, a 55-year-old pig farmer: credible Chinese government: no China: not really Some experts: OK although no name indicated but the word “expert” is quite convincing Juan Labret, head of infectious diseases for the UN Food and Agriculture Organization: credible Anthon Huang, editor of the Journal of Global Health Governance and an assistant professor at Seton Hall University: credible Vincent Martin, an animal health officer for the FAO in Beijing:credible Chineseofficials: no Officials at the Ministry of Agriculture: not really Mao Changing, an analyst with CITIC Securities in Beijing: credible FAO: credible Paper published in a new online scientific journal called Plops ONE: credible Public paper released by the Chinese scientists: not really Chinese government: no Local officials: no Chen Singing, secretary general of the pig breeding division of China’s Association of Animal and Veterinary Sciences: credible Chinese scientists: OK although no name indicated but the word “expert” is quite convincing Zhu Gouging, a professor of veterinary medicine at Yang Zhou University: credible Local media: no Hoang Van Nam, deputy director of Vietnam’s animal health department: credible XiaoHanuman: credible Researcher Chrissie Ding: credible

In my opinion, true name and specific title or department are more credible than anonymity. “EXPERT” or “SCIENTIST” is more credible than common people. But when referring to Chinese government or Chinese officials, which indicates no names, the author might make others regard them not really credible because of so many foreign reports showing them hiding information.

The report is biased in my mind. It looks more like blaming Chinese government for causing pig disease worldwide. It is embodied in the following two aspects: 1. Source: the author citing more credible source when she wants to support her opinion that Chinese government is doing a bad job in controlling pig disease. For example, when the author reports the threat facing other countries caused by China’s pig disease, she cites the word of Juan Labret, head of infectious diseases for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, which is quite credible. But when she reports that the Chinese government is defending itself, she doesn’t cite credible enough source, just saying “Chinese governments” or “Chinese officials” without pointing out specifically who. 2. Language: she uses a lot of negative words in describing Chinese government, for example, “conducted by”, which indicates despotism, “incentives to cover up”, which indicates occlusion, and “cursory peer review”, which indicates imprudence.

I think her facts support her conclusion. But if I report, I would like to focus more on how the pig disease affects people’s lives, not only their pigs, especially the farmers’, because they are the direct victims of this disaster. Their responses are closely related to the measures that the government takes to cope with this matter. Also, it will be covered in my story that the compares among the avian flu, BSE, and SARS, which are all influential epidemic diseases happened around China as well as the whole world. I would also include the contributions China has made during the period, which will make the report less biased.
