ASSIGNMENT FIVE
Analysing on article"Pig Disease in China Worries the World-Lack of Data Impedes Research"
I think the article leaves us a strange overall impression at the very beginning. After our own team members' discussion, our conclusion is that the author herself may be a “sly” or maybe herself is the master of writing and reporting. It's specific that she never mentioned her own opinion directly in the article, however, she use some critical facts of comments to make us believe or at least suspect that the Chinese government and researchers may unwilling to deal with public health problems and hide the research process.
Actually, accoring to our understating and discussion, maybe the writter is trying to express both the information channels of the Chinese government and scientific studies ought to be more open, instead of remaining in the present relatively closed state. She intended to emphasize that the political regime or the institutional behind the scene of this news event should afford the duty of problems. She showed us the examples of the agreement on tissue samples and withholding of informations to support her opinion.
Questions or Comments to the writer:
1.The beginning of the story is too sensational and easily attracted the readers' attention, but the following paragraph write "wiping out the entire herds", this kind of statement should not be very accurate and fair.
2. The following page, the author conclude that maybe directly of indirectly, those diseased pig had already entered the food supply. However, she could not provide any obvious evidence tosupport her conclusion, no matter investigations in markets or interviews from hospitals, showing whether it is a fact or just a rumor.
What we have learned from analysing this news.
1. After learing this news story, we find there are several points that are not valid, the conclusions are just based on her own understanding. From this we learn that when we form our own news story, we should give clear sources, evident evidences which can make the news accurate and reliable.
2. After reading the whole passage, we can more or less have a feeling of bias between the word lines, although the writer didn't express her feeling directly. This bias can be seen obviously from some certain sentences and words she used. So we should try to avoid using inproper words in our news story. To give clear source is always the way to be object.
3.The logic of this article is clear. She write the news in inverse-pyramid structure. It makes the story complete and attractive. That is important for us to learn in future writing news.
