It is my pleasure to be invited to the party to congratulate Mr and Mrs Li who have married for 50 years. As a former collegue and one of the good friends of Mrs Li, I'd like to say something on behalf of all the attendees here.
This is a happy family with 3 generations live together. Actually, Mrs Li is my classmate in college and we wokred together for the same TV station after graduated from the Communication University of China. She is an excellent camerawoman because she always can catch the scene others cannot see. Since she is very passionate about life , we also called her "Miss passionate"at that time. She's got married in 2013 and then give up her job and become a housewife. She said that "family is more important than work "and she prefered to be the successful woman behind her husband. They got their first son in 2015 and got their daughter in 2018, she is a great mother and wife indeed! As a friend of her, I am really proud of her. I sincerely wish this couple a happy life forever!

ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.
The first one:
Stoneforest in Yunnan province, southeast of China, has been added into the list of the world's natural heritage in 2006. It is a good opportunity for Stoneforest to improve its acknowledgement in the world and can greatly help other industries develop. It is and will attract more and more visitors to Stoneforest, but many people concern that it will do harm to the Stoneforest in a long-run and some measures should be adopted. So I want to interview the officals of tourism bureau to know how do they think about that?

The second one:
Different from other senior students, the students in the college of International Communication have to register 9 courses this semester, unfortunately many of them who plan to work after garduate with the Bachelor degree would like to spare some time to go out to find some job opportunities; for those who want to study aborad they also need more time to prepare for their exams;and the situation is the same for the students who want to do further study . So I want to interview the college officals about why this happened?Teachers should know students' situation and try to do something to help student, and what they plan to do to calm the students down.

The third one:
More and more workers from the countrysides flowed into big cities to earn more money to support their family and realize their dreams. But do you know what their dreams are? Do they really find their positions in big cities? How is the life of them like?Is it the same as the worker in the local cities? I want to interview some of them working in Beijing and to demonstrate the real life of them to you .

The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.

Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?

Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.

Assignment 5 Due Sat .Sept 22.

Please read the Washington Post pig disease story.

Please evaluate the story in terms of fairness and bias, focusing on how the story is sourced.

In other words, go through the story and determine the sources of all the reported facts. Please weigh how credible each source is. Then consider whether the facts she has assembled support the conclusions she draws. Has she assembled a solid foundation of facts, or is leaving out important information or points of view? You should also consider things you know about this situation that are not reported in the story.

If you think she has a bias, please support the claim.

I am going to compile your answers and send them to the writer, so please include any questions you want to ask her.

Please complete this by Saturday evening. I am not looking for length, but quality of ideas. Please dont spend more than an hour on this assignment.

Did this story give you any ideas for your own methods of reporting?

The first thing in my mind is that this article is so long that I nearly forget what I have read in the first page or just in the last lines. I think it's terrible because no readers can concentrate his or her mind on the same article for so long! I failed to do so too.

Second, I have to admit that the various source give readers an impression of fairness, for example, the Chinese government, experts inside and outside China, head of infectious diseases for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, animal health officer for the FAO and so on, and these sources of information give the article the overall sense of balance. I think the most wonderful part would be the last paragraph, I think it is credible and vivid, because it was told by a farmer himself but not by the writer.

Third, I think the article is generally fair, but some bias can be seen within the lines, for example, It's all been conducted by the Chinese in China."While China's previous reluctance to share information may have been the legacy of years of secrecy, its reasons for withholding information this time may be about something else: business interests. For China, one the largest exporters of pork and pork products in the world and the target of recent criticism for the safety of its food and other exports.....
There has been a feeling that in the past, some Chinese scientists have not been given recognition for their contributions...
Officials at the Ministry of Agriculture declined to answer questions by phone about the pig deaths and did not respond to questions faxed to them....

Last bue not the least, I think some of the information that not closely relevant to the article can be delete and some information such as the effect the pig disease has brought to Chinese should be added.

Oh ,by the way, I would like to say the thing I learn from this article is that how to begin a article with a lead. The lead of this article is vivid ,attractive and interesting.
