Natasha Wu, a talk and game show host, known for her style of “host chat” which is her trademark and her contributions for charity, died yesterday at her home in Hebei province. She is 75. Her funeral is hold today in Beijing, and all of her relatives and friends attend it.
A funeral is always a sombre occasion. Time freezes at this very moment. People dream to search her figure in their mind, but all they have is nice memory about her. Memory trickle in the runnel of time, slowly and quitely.
“She is destined to be successful, I knew it when she was a unversity student . She is so different. Her communication ability, talking skills, and knowledgeability contribute to her success.” A previous teacher of Natasha in Communication University of China estimates.
As Natasha's intimate friend Juna says,"She is so arresting not only in her programme on TV, but also in her social circle. Everybody loves her.”
She is not only a talk show host, but also a philanthropist; she is not only a talker, but a person who practice what she preaches. She has built two charity schools and helped nearly 5000 youth realize their dream of going to the university. “ Money is useless unless you share it with others who need it. If you are willing to do so, the money will appreciate.” So, she is poor, because she gives her money to others with little left to herself; at the same time, she is a rich women, because she spread her love to others.
“Though she leaves, I will remember her forever. She let me know that there are someone who love me." A girl for whom Natasha had provided financial aid said, eyes brimming with tears.
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.
The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.
Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?
Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.
1 i will interview the chairman of Beijing Olympic Committee, ask him about the progress of the preparation work of Beijing Olympic Games. Shots i plan to include: the facilities, the playground, the volunteers who are serving people, and the "good luck Beijing" testing games.
2 i will interview the curator of the Place Museum, and ask him to introduce cultual relics of Palace Museum. Shots i plan to include: some cultual relics of great value in Palace Museum.
3 i will interview the head of the Statistic Bureau of China, and ask him about statistics relevant to the development of economy. Shots i plan to include: the life of people in the east, and the life of people in the west.
Assignment 5 Due Sat .Sept 22.
Please read the Washington Post pig disease story.
Please evaluate the story in terms of fairness and bias, focusing on how the story is sourced.
In other words, go through the story and determine the sources of all the reported facts. Please weigh how credible each source is. Then consider whether the facts she has assembled support the conclusions she draws. Has she assembled a solid foundation of facts, or is leaving out important information or points of view? You should also consider things you know about this situation that are not reported in the story.
If you think she has a bias, please support the claim.
I am going to compile your answers and send them to the writer, so please include any questions you want to ask her.
Please complete this by Saturday evening. I am not looking for length, but quality of ideas. Please dont spend more than an hour on this assignment.
Did this story give you any ideas for your own methods of reporting?
I think the writer has a bias in this report. For one thing, some of the sources are not credible and clear enough. For example, the writer use repeatedly “Chinese government has admitted”, “China says”, “some experts”, “said Chinese officials”, “the government”, “animal disease experts say”, “Chinese scientists describe”, who are they? If they don’t want to reveal the names of themselves, then which organization they belong to? Are these people authoritative? The writer didn’t give the readers a specific explanation of these people, so we have the right to doubt the sources.
For another, some of the sources, though they are specific enough, they are not authoritative. For instance, “Yan Zhonghua—editor of the Journal of Global Health Governance and an assistant professor at Seton Hall University”, does a editor’s or a university professor’s voice can stand for the voice and position of Chinese government or other Chinese People? Certainly not. Furthermore, I don’t quite understand what an organization “CITIC securities” is; I think the writer should explain more about the organization.
One point I am very confused is that as I know, in China, people will not throw a animal which has died strangely in to a river, even in the village, the peasants understand this clearly. So I don’t know how the writer knows that one of the reasons for the spread of the disease is that people throw the pigs into water. And also in the last paragraph of the paper, the writer said that a pig was floating near the southern bank, is the pig definitely Lo’s? Maybe not.
Moreover, the writer used some indirect quotations; maybe these words are selected from another different language situation, so they are not credible too.
In a conclusion, I think the writer has bias in her article.
I want to ask the writer that if the event happened in her own country, will she report it like this.
I learn from this article that before a journalist writes a report, he or she must do a lot of research, and make sure that all the sources he or she use is credible and authoritative. Everything must be true.
