ASSIGNMENT THREE

BBMinie Zhao, a normal housewife, died peacefully 8p.m. yesterday at her 75, with her beloved husband and three kids around. Born on Dec. 28, 19**, Minie was a lovely angel since she brought laughter and happiness with her white wings to this beautiful land. She was quite smart so there’s no doubt that she entered a famous university after she graduated from high school.

What must be mentioned is that she met her affectionate husband who was one of her classmates when she was 16. They fell in love at first sight and they never parted from then on. Because of her deep love for him and the shock of her parents’ divorce, she decided to be a housewife after university though she could get a really good job with satisfying payments. She managed her family with great efforts and never moved back when facing difficulties. The business of her husband suffered a disastrous decline which nearly forced him to suicide in 1990s, but it was her who saved this family and also her own felicity. “I loved her more than myself. Without her support I would not have been so successful,” said her husband. She was already seven months gone at that time. Three months later their first kid—Edward was born and her husband’s business was pulled back on track. Their family life took on an entire new look when Emma and Eddie were born. This family was united by their love and respect for each other closely and definitely would not be separated by death. Everyone loves her and the love she brought to the people she loved would never be forgotten.
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.

The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.

Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?

Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.

1. Is it true that all the workers who come from the countryside will be sent back home before the Olympics Game ?

Inviewers: The mayor of Beijing. Some of the workers from countryside. Passengers.

Shots: A great number of workers sweated under the sun and also give a glance at their poor living standard. The Beijing governmental officials spoke at some conference about this question. The dingy workers faced the camera lens morosely.

2. Has China's economic boom been the disaster to the environment?

Interviewers: Officials of the State Development Planning Commission. Some Citizens. Farmers. Environmentalists.

Shots: The environmental damage created by the factories. So many people in big cities. Crowded streets and markets.

3. Have foreigners been part of Beijing?

Interviewers: Some foreigners who had settled down in Beijing for many years and will live on. Experts who are specialized in the influence of foreigners. Citizens in Beijing.

Shots: Many foreigners in the streets of Beijing. The students abroad in the universities of Beijing had adapted to the life in Beijing. Happy marriages created by Beijing citizens and foreigners.

ASSIGNMENT FIVE

I think there is bias to some extent. In this news the reporter said,"Some experts, both inside and outside China, are skeptical, citing the government's handling of the avian flu outbreak in 2004 and SARS in 2002 and 2003."She didn't give a list from where this conclusion came and the titles and names of those experts. The credibility is not so high. Most of the examples she selected are obviously not in favor of China. For example,"Though there's no evidence that the virus poses a threat to humans, there are signs that diseased pigs already have entered the food supply either directly because farmers may be trying to pass off diseased pigs as healthy ones,"She confessed that she has no evidence, but she still expressed the situation in such way.
Some facts are not credible in the news. The reporter said,"At least 26 of China's 33 provinces and regions have announced they found diseased pigs within their borders.".In fact, according to Agriculture Adminisreation of China June 12,2007, only 22 provinces were confirmed to suffer the disease. It is obvious that there is a big difference of the fact in two countries' reports.
