The protection of intellectual property rights has become a big issue for Chinese government. The EU Trade Commissioner says China should improve market access or better protect intellectual property rights. If not, China will face a backlash in Europe. Pirated goods on Chinese market have cost European and American companies a big lost. Since China has joined the World Trade Organization, this seems to be an urgent task while playing its part.

ASSIGNMENT THREE
Please paste the Obituary assignment here.
I clearly remember last time we got together and celebrated Lucy’s birthday was in 2004, her 18-year-old birthday party. Two months later, she went to Beijing, to begin her college life and to pursuit her dream of being a journalist.
At that time, in many people’s eyes, she was just a little girl who relied too much on her parents. But as a friend she has gone from diapers, I know that beneath her tender outline is her strong inner. During her days in Beijing, Lucy fulfilled her dream---she has a successful career and a happy family. For her colleagues, she is a good correspondent in deep love with her career. For her beloved family, she is a good wife and a kind mother. And for us, her forever friends, she is still our lovely sister, warm and giving.
Today, on her special day, Lucy has come back to Shanghai, her hometown. We are so happy to be reunited. Though we are getting a lot of wrinkles and gray hairs, but like she says people can be young at hearts. Seeing Lucy fitting right in when she plays with her grandkids, excitedly traveling around the world with her husband, I hope everyone age gracefully…like Lucy.
Now let's give a cheer for her, happy birthday and forever young!

ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.
1 The English language is becoming more and more prevalent in China. However, incorrect English signs are not hard to find. David Tool from American is a teacher at Beijing International Studies University. He has become particularly well known for his work in helping to improve the English found on signs and buildings throughout the capital. David Tool began this correcting work in 2001. This has actually become quite an important part of his life in China. He has a real passion for helping the Chinese improve the English they use on the streets and in their cultural sites. I want to have an interview with him.

2 For senior college students, this year is their last year in college. They are pushed to make a choice among looking for a job, continuing study or going abroad. I want to interview three senior college students. One is working as an intern in a media. Another is preparing for the graduate student exam. The other is busy with GRE and applying universities of US.

3 Beijing Baigongfang or the All Artisans Shop is known as China's Louvre. It's the largest handicraft development and production center. Quite different from the Louvre, Baigongfang is a “living museum” where visitors can fest their eyes on Beijing traditional handicrafts, see how the masterpieces are created by magic hands, and even try their hand. I want to introduce this place to foreign audience.

The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.

Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?

Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.

assignment five
BIAS
1. The paragraph of vaccine Her reason is very persuasive, but she leaves out two points:
(1) Did other countries, including America, make money from vaccines when there was an epidemic first broke out in their realm?
(2) Did other countries insist on the remaining of the patents and royalties of the vaccine they invented? Is it a convention for all countries?
2. According to the article, it's likely that China would rather delay the finding of the cure than share the tissue samples in order to make a fortune from the vaccine. (Is this a right conclusion? ) But the point is, how much money will China lose due to the death of bunches of pigs? Is it less than the money made from the vaccine? Or more? Is it worth for China to do this? Obviously the author omits it.

About Reporting Methods
1. To express one's own idea by selecting materials, though all the materials are true.
2. Using eloquent evidence to express ideas.
3. Finding enough sources and related stories.
4. To introduce the situation is far from enough, we should add the deep analysis to the superficial phenomenon.

My personal views

A: There is an old saying in China which is similar to " Do not wash your dirty linen in public" . Maybe this old tradition contributes to China's reluctance to publicize the outbreaks of SARS and bird flu.
B: In recent years, China and its media increasing realize that there is no good in hiding this kind of information. So more and more related rules are carried out to ensure the transparence of catastrophic news. Though we still lag behind, but we are making progress.
C: The functions of media vary from country to country. They are the objective outcomes of each country's specific history and coincident with the inner structure of the society. From the day China's modern media were born, they are the organs of parties. They are not used to make profits, but to publicize certain party's policy and creed. So the media should never be supposed to harm the party's interest. Since the Communist Party is the sole one in the saddle, if the media criticized the government too severely, maybe the whole country will become turbulent.
D:We Chinese are taught to love our country even we are quite small. Patriotism is a character we value high. Thus, we cannot stand any slander about China. Even the American news is telling the truth, as this pig-thing, we are reluctant to accept the truch. We just can't. China, which is ruled by Communist Party of China now, is our belief. We love China, so we support CPC.
E: Each country has its own history and tradition, why they all should accord to America's standard? Who gives America the right to act like the monarch of the world?
