Experience:

During my freshmen year, I had an internship in the Shanghai Media Group. I was working for two program. They were both economic program. One was CNBC which was an daily financial broadcasting program, the other was a weekly economic talk show.

I've got a general idea of how a broadcasting program run. Actually, I want to get to know more about it.
What I've learning is to make a small segment of film, but not news broadcast.

News Habits:

Which foreign and Chinese newscasts do you regularly watch?

The fox news and the Phoenix

How familiar are you with foreign news broadcasts? Can you watch them at home? Over the Internet?

I always download the AP news minutes.
Usually I will watch the Fox News on the Internetthrough a soft ware call TVUPLAYER, but only connected in the morning and late night.
If time permitted, i will watch the breaking news around 10:30 which they start their morning news.

Please list some strengths and weaknesses of foreign news broadcasts compared to Chinese broadcasts.

Compare the breaking news in the FOX and the Phoenix, I think the hosts in Fox are funnier. They always chat with each other in casual way which makes people feel relax. The Phoenix aslo has the similar kind of style but not in the breaking news.
In my opinion, it's more acceptable if we deliver the message to the publie in a more easy and casual way.

ASSIGNMENT TWO

Please paste the broadcast script you wrote in class on Sept. 10 based on the news wire report here.

ASSIGNMENT THREE
Karen Kidman, a freelance photographer, article writer and the owner of world-known cake store has died. She was 80. Karen passed away on Wednesday at her home in the suburb of Milan, Italy. She left quietly and calmly, just as the name of her cake store Silence.

Karen had been traveled around the world with her camera since age of 25. She then became a famous freelance photographer and column writer in Hong Kong. To own a cake store had always been her dream, and she started the business at 2018 in Shanghai. After retired, she helped the youngsters to form an orchestra and provided her store for their performance. “She is a warm-hearted lady. She always tells us to realize our dream. I think she also realizing her dream by helping us, for she loves piano very much.” Richmon Pize, commander of the Milan orchestra said.

It is a sunny winter afternoon. Karen’s family member gathering in the southern coast of China, they spread her ashes into the big blue.

ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.

The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.

Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?

Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.

ASSIGNMENT FIVE

Some of the sources using in this article is not credible, for examples, the interviewees’ identities and the attributions are not clear. “…driving pork prices up nearly 87 percent in a year and helping push the country’s inflation rate to its highest levels since 1996. The Chinese government has admitted that the swine deaths amount to an epidemic but contends that the situation is under control.” I wonder where did the author get this information and the statistic.

Besides, I would say that the author is quite equitable and impersonal. She first raise an assignment that “…some experts, both inside and outside China, are skeptical, citing the government’s handling of the avian flu outbreak in 2004 and SARS in 2002 and 2003.” But she also reported the government’s action that “… the government has made regular public announcements detailing the number of ill pigs…This stands in sharp contrast to how China dealt wit SARS…” Although there are some information that are not credible enough, she gave full-scale of facts equitably which I appreciated very much. As a foreign reporter, she provided information which was a hot topic in a foreign country and highly related to her own country as well.

From this article, I’ve learn the way of selecting information. As the more research you did, the more information you got. One has to learn to select the most effective information and to give up the one that is less related to your target readers.
