ASSIGNMENT THREE
Please paste the Obituary assignment here. She is a kindhearted and charming woman, who has beautiful curled long black hair, who bright-sunshine-like smile always make us warm and accommodating feeling, whose tenuous hands always help others no matter friends or strangers, whose light-footed steps always bring vigor and optimistic attitude. She is Lady Freya Lee. Freya was born in March 23rd, 1985, on Saturday. She grew up in the turning point time of China----Reform and Opening up. Because of this policy, many new and advanced ideas were brought in this developing country. Little Freya understood and learned this full of vitality and opportunity world with her big clear eyes. At this time, she built up her ideal, being a correspondent. After hardworking, Freya got into the Communication University of China as a International Journalism-major student. Four years later, she became an editor of Phoenix Television Station and worked on the international news, and at this period, Freya met her Mr. Right and got married with him. In 2017, when Freya was 32 years old, the Third World War broke out. She went to U.S. as a war correspondent, and reported the fierce war between U.S. and Russia. Ten years later, after the war, 2027, when she was 42 years old, Freya earned the Nobel prize of news, because as a witness of a rescue action of Seal corps, she wrote a true and emotional report, which can bring people back to the cruel war time. After back to China, Freya retired. In her retire time, she enjoyed the peaceful family time. Meanwhile, she taught English in a primary school. Lady Freya is not only a good correspondent, a good wife and a good mother, but also a good swimmer and a music lover. She always goes swimming and concerts with her friends and children. Today is Freya’s birthday. We, as her friends, just want to say happy birthday.
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.
1, A real story behind 911 If we talk about the World Trade Center, everybody will remind the tragedy 911. It hurt not only the American citizens heart but also the families and friends of all the victims, no matter whether they come from U.S. or other countries all over the world. In this case, I want to interview the mother of one of my friends Ann. She used to work in the World Trade Center buildings with her friend Helen, who died in 911 in her office in the WTC building. Ann worked for Sina website headquarter in World Trade Center floor 32 in New York. In 1998, she came back to China. I want ask her some questions about her friend Helen. Let tell us a real story behind 911.
2, The influent to hotel industry by 2008 Olympic game As the Olympic game coming day by day, the hotel industry becomes more and more hot. The price of hotel room is higher and higher. If you don’t book it right now, before the opening of 2008 Olympic game 10 months, you won’t have any vacant room in any hotel at that time. In this case, I want to interview the manager of Beijing Guoyi hotel to discuss and forecast the development of Chinese hotel industry, by comparing with the situation now. If the industry will last a long hot develop.
3, Volunteers of 2008 Beijing Olympic game Many college students and retired citizens are taking part in the 2008 Beijing Olympic game as volunteers. I want to interview about 3 or 4 of them to get the reason why they willing to do this and what courses they have taken for preparing and becoming eligible.
The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.
Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?
Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.
ASSIGNMENT FIVE:
The analysis of the pig disease story.
The source of the story is quite credible. It introduce the information from the government, the villagers and some experts. At the first page of this news, the writer summarized the pig disease story and screetly put her own opinion in the story.
IM NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT THE THE WRITER PUTTING HER OPINION SECRETLY IN THE STORY. IN MY OPINION THE WRITER IS QUITE EXPLICIT ABOUT THE CASE SHE IS BUILDING.
But we aren’t superstitious that it is a perfectly fair and neutral reporting.
On the one hand, she said that there were signs that the infected pigs had polluted the drinking water. And all through the story, there are no clear demonstration except the content of the last paragraph. But we can see from the last paragraph, the scene may not be the reporter or the researcher’s first hand observation. She has no evidence to prove the polluted drinking water theory.
I THINK SHE OR HER RESEARCHER WITNESS THE PIG IN THE WATER FIRST HAND. LETS ASK HER. IF SHE DID SEE IT, WOULD YOU AGREE THAT THIS, PLUS THE FACT THAT THE FARMER SHE INTERVIEWED SAID THIS WAS A COMMON WAY TO DISPOSE OF DEAD PIGS, WOULD BE A CLEAR DEMONSTRATION?
And on the other hand, we think that the reporter has missed an important point of the story. All she wants to do is to show that Chinese government refuses to be helpful in pig diseace control. And she also takes SARS as an example. But she has forgotten that China had successfully keep SARS under control. Maybe the international organizations should give more trust to Chinese experts. But news is not about guess, it needs facts and figures. Providing the details of international aids and letting the readers judge may be better
I THINK THIS LAST PARAGRAPH OF YOURS SHOWS UNCLEAR LOGIC. FIRST OF ALL, SARS SPREAD OUTSIDE OF CHINA AND KILLED PEOPLE IN CANADA, MALAYSIA, SINGAPORE, THAILAND, THAILAND AND VIETNAM, SO YOU CANNOT SAY CHINA KEPT IT FROM SPREADING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. SECOND, INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS APPARENTLY DO NOT TRUST CHINESE EXPERTS ABOUT THIS PIG DISEASE. THAT IS THE FACT. IS THE REPORTER SHOWING BIAS BY REPORTING IT? THIRD, WHAT GUESSING DID THE REPORTER DO? HER STORY IS FULL OF FACTS AND FIGURES. AND SHE SEEMS TO PROVIDE THE DETAILS OF THE OPINIONS OF INTERNATIONAL GROUPS..
In general, we thought the story is quite a successful report. We have learnt that we need facts and figures to back our conclusions. And these sources must be credible. We can’t get informations from someone who are not related to the story.
