ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.
The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.
Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?
Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.
1 many banks pay more attention to the university campus.
the banks take many measures to attract the college students to transact their credit cards. But the students don't
have the ability to pay them back, and the payers are their parents.
shots: the banks, students transacting the cards in the campus.
interviewee: the students, the parents
2 the price of the food in the university increase more or less
because of the increase price of the food in china, the price of food in university also increases. But it doesn't make
much infection.
shots: the eatery of the university.
interviewee:students, master of the eatery
3 the women world cup in china
it's a kind of preparation for the olympic games 2008
shots: the matches of the wwc
interviewee: athletes
ASSIGNMENT FIVE:
Final Analysis This news story encompasses all kinds of facts from different sources, which includes interviewing with local people, FAO, experts, professors, analysts from CITIC Securities as well as officials of Chinese government to support her conclusion. Although some of the facts are not reliable or proper, the whole story is trustworthy to most of the people. However, the story is biased to some extend by claiming Chinese government for its irresponsibility and not sharing the information with the public. The story mentions little about the effort that the Chinese government made, and it contains little comments from Chinese government officials which compared to other sources are not enough.. From this news story we learn that before we get down to the report we should make all-around investigation and researching, let the facts speak for themselves. Of we want to promote our personal opinion through the report, we could omit or blur some of the facts inattentively. Also clarify the source can make the story more reliable. The author has excellent writing skill. The first two paragraphs as delayed lead are very attractive. But the story is not well organized in logical order. For example, the person Huang’s identity in the last paragraph of page 2 remained unknown until page 4, readers may feel confused. Overall, it is a very good report that we can learn a lot from.
Good. About the order -- Good observation. I think that is my fault, the pages were in the wrong order.
Some questions though --
Since the Agriculture Department spokesman would not comment, how could the author talk to more officials? She does site government figures and comments throughout the story.
The author does mention something about the efforts the Chinese government is making, But since these efforts do not seem to be reaching the farmers she interviews, how much space do you think it deserves?
Also, does accusing the Chinese government of acting irresponsibly and not sharing information with the public make the story biased? How so?
