ASSIGNMENT TWO

Please paste the broadcast script you wrote in class on Sept. 10 based on the news wire report here.

Hundreds of South Korean were asked to leave the country by the local government, accused of preahing Christianity in the Islamic country.
The group’s spokesman denied all those accusations. He said the group of about 1,200 South Koreans were just doing relief work and atending a cultural festival.
About 200 Koreans had already been deported to Uzbekistan DELETE [for the same reason by a provice government.]

VERY GOOD.

ASSIGNMENT THREE
Please paste the Obituary assignment here.

INCOMPLETE

ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.

The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.

Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?

Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.

1.The Chinese university students' craziness of doing investment in the stock market.
In this case, I would like to interview LI Ying, a manager of a security company;
and Ma Lu, a university student had lost over 1000 yuan although there was such a bull market.

THIS COULD BE GOOD.

2.The trend that not that many students are willing to take GRE test.
In this case, I would like to do a telephone interview with the chief of GRE center Beijing branch. And I would like to interview 30 students who have taken the test and ask their opinion about their purpose of taking this test and 30 students who do not want to take this test.

THIS HAS INTEREST TO STUDENTS ALL OVER THE WORLD

3.The price rich of agricultural products in major Chinese cities.
In this case, I would like to go to the university cafeteria to interview the chef and managers for their felling of the new change of their major raw materials.

THIS IS NOT SO GOOD -- I THINK IT DOES NOT IMPACT FOREIGNERS.

ASSIGNMENT FIVE

1. We found some incredible points in this article.

interviewee or paragraph

quotation or remark

suspicion or question

1.Para. 3 on the first page

"wiping out entire herds" It's too exaggerative
2. "some experts" in Para. 6 of the first page "some experts....are skeptical" Who are these experts?
3. Last para. on page one "the virus has been found in ....Vietnam and Burma" Does the pig disease found in the neighboring countries necessarily come from China?
4. Chen Qingming in Para. 3 Page 2

"the statistics are not accurate" The secretary didn't give any reasons or facts to make that point

2.My questions
It seems to me that the writer prefers to interview someone who works for a organization that ordinary Chinese people never heard before. Why not choose organizations that enjoy good reputation and high pupularity in China?

3.Although I still have many doubts in my heart, I think it is a good piece of analysis. It uses sources of different fields and different countries, which doubtlessly inceaces its credibility. It provides sufficient data to the readers so they can easily agree with the writer's arguments.
But the choice of sources is the most important in news writing. If one's source is improper, the effect of what the writer want to say will be greatly affected.
