Xinhua News Agency of People's Republic of China
January 24th 2086
GREAT JOB. YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO GOT IT SO FAR.
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.
The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.
Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?
Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.
1. More and more college students choose to operate a shop either on the Internet or in reality. Some of them are my friends, who are from different majors related to media, but their final jobs have nothing to do with media. I'd like to interview those friends, such as Li Xiaobai (cake shop) and Zhang Yuxiang (Internet shop), to know their reasons.
GOOD IDEA
2. The price of buying a house in Beijing has been rising at a suprising pace. Four years ago at 5 huan, the price was only 4,000 RMB per square metre, while now it's up to 10,000RMB per square metre at some places. So it makes buying a house a great burden in Beijing, and lots of residents feel the price is too high to believe. I want to interview some related people if possible, to see whether the price would go down after the Olympics or keep rising in the future.
ALSO GOOD
3. It's been a more and more common situation that '419' is getting more public and acceptble among college students. You can easily see somebody find sexual partner on the college students' forum, and to my surprise, only a few students think it's shameful. I call this "China's Sexual Liberation Movement", compared to US's 1960s. So I want to interview some of them to have a chat (I can find them in a specail way), because I think they represent lots of contemporary Chinese college students. I wonder whether it's because of their pressure of life or vacuity, or their open thoughts~!
THIS IS VERY GOOD
ASSIGNMENT FIVE
Basically in my opinion, “Pig Disease in China Worries the World-Lack of Data Impedes Research” is a comprehensive report, yet some weaknesses due to the correspondent's vague view of the report make us confusing about the whole event. Trough heated discussion on class, our group determined she focused mainly on what the title says, "the swine disease threating the whole world comes from China". But several details she lists do not support her piont of view. For instance, at the top of the 5th page, the first two paragraphes about Vietnam's swine disease reveal that China does not contributes to it, thus it is not a strong detail to back her view.
