ASSIGNMENT THREE
Please paste the Obituary assignment here.
I’ve been friends with Doris for more than 50 years. As her intimate buddy, we share cheer and sorrow, first kiss and first lovelorn tear.

Today, we are gathering here celebrating her 75 years’ birthday. It’s so gorgeous a party that reminds me of our graduating party.

At that time, my dream was to be a battleground reporter. But she dreams of being a happy house woman with little work pressure.

When I began my further study in America, she happily told me her engagement with an excellent partner; when I got my title of PhD, she was busy breeding her first child Charlie.

As an at home column writer, she shares her experiences of love, shopping, cooking, educating and everything with her readers. Her optimism towards life gains her a stable readership.

Although I’ve became an excellent reporter, I don’t have the experience of traveling around the world with my husband as she does. I devoted myself to the job but losing an integrated memory of my children’s growing trace.

So Doris, I must say, you are lucky to live a life fully enjoy the happiness as a human. You don’t live for work, money or reputation, but for life itself. Let’s cheers for her fabulous life!
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.

The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.

Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?

Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.
1、 Chinese students’ opinions about 2008 US presidential race.
The interviewees are two Chinese college students who are extremely interested in American politics. One of them has the same name as the presidential candidate Hilary. The other one did a lot of researches on international relations and is preparing to pass the exam for a further study of this subject in Peking University.
We would like to talk with them about their predictions of the race and also the trends of Sino-US relations in the future administration.

2、 Chinese students' "world of Warcraft"
"WOW" is the name of an internet computer game. It has been prevailed among Chinese students for a period of time. When students enter college, they are released from a high-pressure circumstance and also away from their parents. Many of them indulged in the game such as "WOW"
We'd like to interview some boys in our school and to see how the game influences their college life.

3、 The beautiful tourist destination-Dali
In the southwest China's Yunnan province, there is a beautiful place called Dali. Its natural scenery attracted numerous foreigners visiting there every year. We'd like Allen, a boy who grew up here, to introduce his hometown to us. From this interview, the audience could know some interesting conventions and legends in southwest China- a mysterious place even for our Chinese who live far from there.
assignment five
BIAS
1. The paragraph of vaccine Her reason is very persuasive, but she leaves out two points:
(1) Did other countries, including America, make money from vaccines when there was an epidemic first broke out in their realm?
(2) Did other countries insist on the remaining of the patents and royalties of the vaccine they invented? Is it a convention for all countries?
2. According to the article, it's likely that China would rather delay the finding of the cure than share the tissue samples in order to make a fortune from the vaccine. (Is this a right conclusion? ) But the point is, how much money will China lose due to the death of bunches of pigs? Is it less than the money made from the vaccine? Or more? Is it worth for China to do this? Obviously the author omits it.

About Reporting Methods
1. To express one's own idea by selecting materials, though all the materials are true.
2. Using eloquent evidence to express ideas.
3. Finding enough sources and related stories.
4. To introduce the situation is far from enough, we should add the deep analysis to the superficial phenomenon.

My personal views

A: There is an old saying in China which is similar to " Do not wash your dirty linen in public" . Maybe this old tradition contributes to China's reluctance to publicize the outbreaks of SARS and bird flu.
B: In recent years, China and its media increasing realize that there is no good in hiding this kind of information. So more and more related rules are carried out to ensure the transparence of catastrophic news. Though we still lag behind, but we are making progress.
C: The functions of media vary from country to country. They are the objective outcomes of each country's specific history and coincident with the inner structure of the society. From the day China's modern media were born, they are the organs of parties. They are not used to make profits, but to publicize certain party's policy and creed. So the media should never be supposed to harm the party's interest. Since the Communist Party is the sole one in the saddle, if the media criticized the government too severely, maybe the whole country will become turbulent.
D:We Chinese are taught to love our country even we are quite small. Patriotism is a character we value high. Thus, we cannot stand any slander about China. Even the American news is telling the truth, as this pig-thing, we are reluctant to accept the truch. We just can't. China, which is ruled by Communist Party of China now, is our belief. We love China, so we support CPC.
E: Each country has its own history and tradition, why they all should accord to America's standard? Who gives America the right to act like the monarch of the world?
