Today we are here to commemorate this great lady, Christine Gao. At her 75, she leaves us forever, but it is true that she will long live in our heart. She is so kind, hard-working and charitable all her life. She spends most of her life helping the sick and poor children all over the world. She has a bright brain ,sharp eye and a determined heart. After several years of hard working ,she runs a very successful business. She earns a large amount of money and puts most of them into the project of charity. What is more, she travels to a lot of countries, especially the poor ones, to encourage the children there. She founds a scientific research center to make a medcine, which cures immunodeficiency. She is so kind and warm-hearted to every child that all the children love her so much. Just as the Secretary of the UN says, “She devotes all her life to the children, and the children will thank her all their lifes.” However, she never be too proud of herself. She always says,”There are still a lot of poor children who cannot receive any help, we should call on everybody to give them a hand.” Even dying, she does not forget about this. Now she has gone, let us continue her career to make the world fullfilled with love!
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you. The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.

Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?

Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.

1.the most attractive key point of interest foreign visitors would like to visit and why
interviewees: foreign visitors from different countries
2.how the people think about the 2008 Olympic Games. Is it too luxurious, especially compared with the situation of China?
interviewees: people from China and other countries, both citizens and experts.
3.more and more Chinese national companies are playing a important role in the internationa market. some people think that is mostly because they make use of their monopoly in internal market, so their achievement does little to their own market and econemy. how do you think.
interviewees: managers of both national and private companies and economic experts.

Assignment 5 Due Sat .Sept 22.

Please read the Washington Post pig disease story.

Please evaluate the story in terms of fairness and bias, focusing on how the story is sourced.

In other words, go through the story and determine the sources of all the reported facts. Please weigh how credible each source is. Then consider whether the facts she has assembled support the conclusions she draws. Has she assembled a solid foundation of facts, or is leaving out important information or points of view? You should also consider things you know about this situation that are not reported in the story.

If you think she has a bias, please support the claim.

I am going to compile your answers and send them to the writer, so please include any questions you want to ask her.

Please complete this by Saturday evening. I am not looking for length, but quality of ideas. Please dont spend more than an hour on this assignment.

Did this story give you any ideas for your own methods of reporting?

There are several kinds of sources of the reported facts: 1. Pig farmers. I consider it is credible, because the writer interviewed them directly and there was no necessary for them to tell lies. 2. The Chinese government. It is not very credible, because there are some inconsistencies in its former and later reports and some facts and numbers it released were not based on the reality, besides, obviously it was trying to hide something from us. 3. The FAO. The writer interviewed some officials directly, and they tried to tell us all the informatina them could get and the truth they believed. However, just as they said, “we have no firsthand or independent evaluation of the virus or vaccine. It's all been conducted by the Chinese in China. ”, what they got was not completely true. 4. Some experts of China. I consider it is mainly credible, because they were doing researches and what they said was objective and did not made an arbitrary decision. 5. PLoS ONE, run by the nonprofit Public Library of Science in San Francisco.I consider it is also mainly credible, because it is written by a team of animal researchers from China's top academies, the paper traces the epidemiological origin of the virus, provides pictures of the pathogen under an electron microscope and offers its genetic sequence. 6. Vietnam’s local media. It is mainly credible, because it reported that two people ate infected pork and then died, but having no evidence ,it did not concluded that them died from it. 7. Mao Changqing, an analyst with CITIC Securities in Beijing. Not very credible, because he did not have enough firsthand information, and what he said is just based on his estimation. The writer concluded that “As a result, there is worry that while China is lagging, the virus is quickly turning into a global problem” and “While China's previous reluctance to share information may have been the legacy of years of secrecy, its reasons for withholding information this time may be about something else: business interests.” I don’t think she assembled enough facts to support her points. First ,virus has only be found in pigs in China's southern neighbors,Vietnam and Burma, and we should admit that Chinese government did tried hard to deal with it, so she should not concluded so absolutely that the virus was turing, especially quickly, into a glabal problem. Second, she cited the government's handling of the avian flu outbreak in 2004 and SARS in 2002 and 2003 and the words of FAO and an an analyst with CITIC Securities in Beijing to support her conclusion that the Chinese government hide the truth from the public, especially the other countries, in order to cheat them to buy the infected pork. That is not possible! She did not have the evidence that China had exported any infected pork to any country. And I also think it is a bia. Maybe it hided something, hoping to protect its good reputation or in case of tempest or something else, but she should not concluded that it did this completely for business interests. Sure, it did give me some methods of reporting. First, get as much firsthand information from different sources as I can. Second , decide strictly which ones are credible. Third, do remember be neutral and never make an arbitrary decision.

THIS IS A WELL-REASONED ANALYSIS.

I DONT THINK THE AUTHOR WAS TRYING TO CLAIM THAT CHINA IS TRYING TO EXPORT INFECTED PORK. THAT WAS NOT HER POINT. I THINK THE AUTHOR WAS SAYING THAT CHINA IS TRYING TO FIGHT THE VIRUS ALONE WITHOUT HELP FROM FOREIGNERS, BUT THERE ARE SIGNS ITS EFFORTS ARE NOT EFFECTIVE, AND CHINA's GO-IT-ALONE STANCE IS ENDANGERING OTHER COUNTRIES.
