Candy Wan, the incredible 99-year-old poet and peacemaker, passed away on Tuesday's morning due to lung cancer. Candy had been fighting against this incurable illness with inspiration hope and unbelievable courage till the last minute of her life. (a profile of Candy Wan here) She is a Chinese legend and the poster girl for the whole nation. She was National Goodwill Ambassador for the year 2006 for the Cancer Defending Association. (Pic: Candy Wan holding her prizes) She got her inspiration for poems from the real life, thinking about when she was going to do, then burst or spurt out everything. (Pic: Candy Wan sitting down and writing poems) She was a strong peacemaker, devoting most of her time into advocating peace. She believed that if we spent as much time generating as much energy as we do advocating war into advocating peace instead of war, the world would e such a better place. From battle fields to backyards, from arrows to anthrax, it is really sad the way the world is today. She made great efforts to talk with people about the ideal world without bombs, without weapons, without wars. Candy Wan, a person deserveing all the hornor and repect, will live in your and my heart for good.
ASSIGNMENT FOUR
Write three pitches that you and some classmates can actually produce with the time and resources available to you.
The audience will be English speaking You Tube viewers. Your pitch should offer them something they cannot see elsewhere. This means slice of life and human interest stories are OK, but try to come up with some hard issue pieces or stories related to breaking news as well. Foreigners love to hear about: The Olympics, counterfeit or dangerous products, the environment and global warming, martial arts, student trends, China's economy, interesting tourist destinations, and anything unusual or surprising. Think about a story you would like to hear about in another country, and try it here.
Also think about the big stories in the world, and look for a Chinese connection. Are there Iraqi students here? Does China have an Islamic insurgency? What do Chinese students think about the US presidential race? Who is in charge at the Palestian Embassy here now that the Palestinians have split amid civil war?
Your pitch should include the names of the people you plan to interview, and the shots you plan to include.
1.The elementary foreign school of *** held the thematic league activity of "following Olympic protocol, upholding Olympic spirit".
pupils and teachers of this school in and around the school, the location of the activity
2. 50 students hospitalized for food poisoning
students hospitalized, their parents, administration of school the hospital, refectory of school
3. Freshmen enter universities holding their life styles poles apart
university students of varied life styles different universities
ASSIGNMENT FIVE
Final Analysis: This news story encompasses all kinds of facts from different sources, which includes interviewing with local people, FAO, experts, professors, analysts from CITIC Securities as well as officials of Chinese government to support her conclusion. Although some of the facts are not reliable or proper, the whole story is trustworthy to most of the people. However, the story is biased to some extend by claiming Chinese government for its irresponsibility and not sharing the information with the public. The story mentions little about the effort that the Chinese government made, and it contains little comments from Chinese government officials which compared to other sources are not enough. From this news story we learn that before we get down to the report we should make all-around investigation and researching, let the facts speak for themselves. Of we want to promote our personal opinion through the report, we could omit or blur some of the facts inattentively. Also clarify the source can make the story more reliable. The author has excellent writing skill. The first two paragraphs as delayed lead are very attractive. But the story is not well organized in logical order. For example, the person Huang’s identity in the last paragraph of page 2 remained unknown until page 4, readers may feel confused. Overall, it is a very good report that we can learn a lot from.
