ASSIGNMENT TWO

The German composer Richard Wagner made his operatic debut in Southeast Asia more than 120 years after his death. The production takes a Buddhist slant although none of the words or score has been changed. The show’s Thai director says the show is about power and political corruption. Somtow says the political implications should be clear to the audience in Thailand as well as neighboring states like Myanmar and Cambodia, countries with authorities rule that are rife with corruption.

ASSIGNMENT THREE
Mrs. Gezegt’s 75th Birthday Bash The finder and the owner of bG group’s, Mrs. Bogie Gezegt has celebrated her seventy-fifth birthday on the fifteenth of April. The party was held in her hometown Erdenet, Mongolia at her parent’s house. There where 150 close friends and family members. Her brothers and beloved husband of nearly forty years arranged the party. The guest list also included Mrs. Gezegt’s childhood friends, her partners and workers from her group. Old friends such as the president of Vogue, Isabella Gonzales, the Oscar winning actor Wentworth Miller were at presence. Her life was full of adventures and valuable experiences. Mrs. Gezegt graduated from the Communication University of China in 2009 and received her Master degree in the US in 2012. After that she started working in the fashion magazine Vogue. After five years yet again, she received her PHD degree in the Art of literacy. She opened her own coffee shop afterwards, as making one of her dreams come true. In her mid 30s she started writing fiction novels. Her first book, the Smooth operator became a New York Bestseller. Seems like her success didn’t satisfy her, she continued pursuing her dreams. She created her music recording studio, bG records and her fashion magazine bG’s. She is now living with her family in Sentosa Island and happily ready to retire. Her speech was quite simple, “I’ve lived my dream life. I want to thank my parents, my family and my friends for helping me make my dream come true.” The party continued for almost 7 hours. The elders reminisced their old days by dancing to Rihanna’s Please Don’t Stop the music and Akon’s I wanna Love You and Mrs. Gezegt sang Fly me to the Moon.
ASSIGNMENT FOUR

As a foreigner some things always intrigued me.
1. fake goods and DVD. It always amazed me, how they can imitate the pruduct exactly as the original one and sell it and manage to keep on selling, despite the fact that they are getting sued a lot lately.

2. Chinese family and their one children. we all know that chinese family can have only one child. But what intrigued me was that, what is this law giving the children? I've calculated it once. If both the parents are one child of a family and they have only one child of their own, then that child gets 6 people's attention and care. His/her parents, both sides granparents. So it isn't very hard to understand why people say more and more Chinese children are becoming selfish, and even fat from fast food. So I think it would be really interesting to research about this.

3. the last one is something that I'm interested in. Europians and most Asians, really can't tell if a person is Chinese, Korean or Japanese or Mongolian. But Most Mongolians can tell it and they tell it correct. So i think it would be interesting to compare Chinese, Korean and Japanese people. Their appearance, their wardrobe, their daily habit, their hairstyle, even their way of walking. One, even almost everyone might say they are almost the same. But if you observe carefully, they are very very different. Thus, I think it will be interesting to do this kind of research.

ASSIGNMENT FIVE
Pig Disease in China Worries the World
Lack of Data Impedes Research By Ariana Eunjung Cha
Washington Post Foreign Service
Sunday, September 16, 2007; Page A01
Analysis
In general, her report is quite complete. Clearly she did a lot of research and interviews. But, from the way I understand it, the report is quite biased. Considering the information she collected and the conclusion she has drawn, she is against China.
Bias: e.g.: At least 26 of China's 33 provinces and regions have announced they found diseased pigs within their borders.
She did a good job on how the virus is affecting citizens and the farmers as well as the neighboring countries, but she didn’t give enough information about how the government is fighting with the virus. Why they are reluctant to give out the vaccine related information, etc. If given more specific information about how the Chinese government is coping with the virus, the report would not seem as biased as it is.
Contradiction: At the end of August, China launched an aggressive public education campaign about the pig disease, printing 600,000 handbooks about prevention and control of blue ear disease and dispatching 251 experts to disease-stricken areas. Many said they did not know the name of the disease that has affected the pigs and that much of what they had heard may be superstition. Sources: I think the sources are quite good. But the only problem to me is that she is not giving the source specifically. For instance: she would say, The Chinese government, China, the FAO, etc. Why not specify them? The broad identity of the source makes it unreliable. The conclusion is extremely emotional. Actually, it is not a conclusion, but more of a vivid description of what the victims are like. Thus it leaves the reader emotional and in pity of victims and dislike of the government.
Questions I would like to ask her: How long did it take for her to get all the necessary information? What was the hardest part for her to cover? What did she exactly intend to give the readers by this report? The things I’ve learnt: Well, after analyzing her report I learnt that one must give exactly the same amount of information from both sides, or must see a problem from many different angles as possible and never mix ones personal emotion with ones work.
